When I did my test we were separated into groups according to the type of licence we were applying for (manual/ automatic). I did the automatic test so here are the steps to be taken when moving off and parking.
When moving off:
Ask yourself, “Am I permitted to park here?” If parking is allowed:
When moving off:
- ALWAYS fasten your seatbelt
- Adjust your three mirrors.
- Release handbrake
- Shift gear lever to “Drive”
- Turn off the Hazard Lights
- Signal left
- Check left mirror.
- If there are no vehicles drive forward slowly.
Ask yourself, “Am I permitted to park here?” If parking is allowed:
- Check your mirrors
- Signal right
- Drive slowly unto the right side of the road.
- Turn on the hazard lights
- Smoothly stop the car straight parallel to the road (approximately 1m away from road)
- Put the gear lever in park
- Apply the handbrake
