The Doha Driving Test

The driving test in Doha is comprised of three basic components.
1. The Road Sign Test
2. The Yard Test
  • L-Parking
  • Box Parking
3. The Road Test

1. THE ROAD SIGN TEST
You will be provided with a copy of the road signs on which you will be tested by the driving school. See the section on the Al Khebra Manual.  There are no surprises.  All that is required is preparation and demonstration of knowledge.  The road sign test is very informal.  The examiner simply points at a board with the signs and you are required to accurately identify each. You won't be asked to identify all the signs just a few, I was only asked to identify 3 or 4 signs.

Tip: The longer you take to answer the less knowledgeable you will appear and the less you will be asked to identify.

After you take the road sign test (and pass) go to the yard where you will see the test cars neatly parked in two rows.  Choose a car and get ready to drive!!

2. THE YARD TEST
Here you will be required to perform the L-Parking and Box Parking (both of which are forms of perpendicular parking).  The key to passing the yard test is not to hit any of the poles.

3. THE ROAD TEST
Don't be afraid of the Examiners to be quite frank they were professional and neutral with me.  I couldn't read them at all, which is the way it ought to be.  People will tell you all sorts of negative things about the Examiners.  IGNORE IT. Their negative experiences do not have to be yours.  Believe me!

Just be confident and follow the all the rules you learned.  You may be taken into the residential community near to Al Khebra which is called "The Village".  You will be required to make a few left and right turns. You may be required to drive for about 2 -3 minutes and then park. [See the section on moving off and parking.]  When driving in The Village bear in mind that where the road markings are faded pretend there are imaginary lines and stop before them where necessary.

Alternatively you may be taken unto the main road and through some roundabouts.  Don't despair just ensure that you practice on all types of roads during your lessons.

Listen carefully to the Examiner's instructions and follow them.
