How to use the Doha Roundabouts

I was AFRAID of the roundabouts until my instructor made me practice in a developing community with a  few small ones with little or no traffic. Now I actually like using them.
Turning RIGHT at a roundabout
  1. At the earliest opportunity find yourself in the right lane
  2. Indicate RIGHT when you are approximately 50m away from the roundabout (I prefer to indicate at the 100m point to give those behind me who might be sending text messages or watching DVDs adequate notice of my intention to turn.
  3. Observe the YIELD sign - never stop over the Give Way Line.
  4. Give priority to vehicles travelling from the left.
  5. When it is safe to move drive into the roundabout in the right lane this is the first exit.
  • If the exit has THREE lanes you must exit in the MIDDLE lane
  • If the exit has TWO lanes you must exit in the RIGHT lane
Going STRAIGHT at a roundabout
  1. At the earliest opportunity find yourself in the MIDDLE lane
  2. No indicator is used when entering the roundabout when you intend to go straight.
  3. Observe the YIELD sign - never stop over the Give Way Line.

  5. When it is safe to move drive into the the roundabout inMIDDLE lane.
  6. When you have passed the first exit, indicate right
  7. Check your rear view mirror and pay close attention to your right mirror.
  8. When it is safe exit the roundabout

Things you should never do in a Doha Roundabout ... although everybody seems to be doing it:
  1. Never switch lanes in a roundabout.
  2. Never exit a roundabout without checking your mirrors
  3. Never exit a roundabout without indicating.
